After a successful trip in 2018, Mike was excited to find out that he had drawn a tag to chase mule deer in western North Dakota again this year. The first couple days of hunting would turn up several nice bucks, and a couple failed stalks. It was on the afternoon of day 3 when our luck would change. The sun was beating down and the temps were in the mid 90s as we slipped into a new spot on public ground to post up for the afternoon and glass. We got to the fence line, and were checking out our surroundings when we noticed this buck grazing on the hillside not more than 150 yards away from us. We crawled backwards, got out of sight, and came up with a game plan. The terrain and a favorable crosswind allowed for Mike to get inside 30 yards before making a well placed shot on this gorgeous velvet muley!
